Research in the Nanophotonics and Surface Chemistry Group

Our group helps to understand elementary processes at solid surfaces and interfaces. This will enable a better materials engineering for energy economic chemical production processes, for solar energy harvesting and storage, for solar fuel production and for future low energy optoelectronics. Our research comprises:

– investigations on (photo)chemical reactions at supported functional nanoparticulate systems using surface science methods

– preparation of colloidal nanoparticles with control of the composition, the particle size, shape and electronic structure and access to reaction sites

– preparation of ultrathin films and layered materials with defined thickness

– fabrication of new functional low dimensional organic materials for future optoelectronic devices

– studies on time resolved electron transfer dynamics and quantum state resolved energy partitioning in photochemical processes after optical excitation with ultrashort lasers.
